What will the internet look like in 5 years?

As we have discussed throughout the quarter, the internet is becoming more invasive in terms of privacy and constantly exposing you to products You Might Be Interested In. I think a lot of people during quarantine got exhausted of screen time and social media usage, so perhaps that can anticipate how the internet will adapt to people's fatigue. Also, telecommuting and e-commerce have flourished during this time, but I believe people don't want to push this development further. I think in person experiences are what we need, so the internet may try to come closer to those experiences. AR and VR technologies are being explored more in depth, so I'm excited to see if the internet will integrate more AR/VR elements into the experience. I know that VRChat already exists, and people tend to get very immersed in that game, so hopefully we will be able to find some moderation in interactive experiences like those. Moderation is what we really need from the internet, and this class explored how our relationship with the internet is unhealthy. We are too reliant on it. So I hope in the future the internet will give us a chance to alleviate our dependency.
